Short answer
Sort screenshots by issue and date. Keep enough context to understand them later, and label each one with what it shows.
Do a first sort
Start with a few folders or labels.
Examples: schedule, exchanges, money, school, medical, and court papers.
Use date-first names
A date-first name keeps files in order.
Example: 2026-05-03 schedule-change-message.
Keep context
Screenshots need enough surrounding information to make sense.
Save nearby messages or a note that explains where the screenshot came from.
Remove duplicates later
Do not start by deleting everything.
First sort. Later, remove duplicates after you know what is safely saved.
What to do first
Pick one issue and rename five screenshots with date, topic, and short description.
What to save
- Original screenshots
- Date and time context
- Who sent the message if shown
- Issue label
- Short note on what it shows
What to avoid
- Saving only cropped images with no context
- Using angry file names
- Mixing every topic into one folder
- Deleting originals before sorting
Start with one small step
Save screenshots by date and connect them to the event or issue they support.
